ACE has served the Bay Area for More Than 40 Years

ACE, a privately funded, non-profit organization, was founded in 1968 initially to deliver worksite-based education programs originating from Bay Area schools and universities using closed circuit television.

With the growth of the Internet for delivering innovative education, in 2000, ACE and its partners evolved ACE's services to include the delivery of broadband wireless Internet, similar to a DSL line, but delivered over radio spectrum.

Now in 2010, ACE, partnering with Clearwire Communications, is providing educational services utilizing an advanced wireless 4G WiMAX network. WiMAX is similar to WiFi in that it provides Internet access but, is faster, and covers greater distances. Its technology and mobility supplies Internet access for miles, not just in the coffee shop.

Clearwire Communications is building a WiMAX network throughout the United States, and it has partnered with ACE to utilize a portion of ACE's licensed radio spectrum to complete the SF Bay Area portion of their network. This partnership provides ACE the necessary hardware and connectivity to utilize Clearwire's WiMAX network for its educational partners. Wireless networks provide broadband technology to deliver mobile Internet access to devices such as the iPhone, iPad, smartphones, book readers, printers, peripherals, computers and other devices using a wireless Internet connection.

The broadband spectrum that ACE provides to Clearwire Communications for its network is Educational Broadband Service spectrum that has been licensed to ACE for the past 40 years by the Federal Communications Commission.

Clearwire Communications, LLC, is an operating subsidiary of Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR.)
