Envision Schools as an ACE Partner School

Guest blog by Brad Rigney, Director of Technology, Envision Schools

Over the past school year, students have been benefiting from the donation from ACE and purchase of a class set of MacBooks. All four of the Envision Schools ensure that students have access to technology-based tools as it is central to our mission of preparing students for success in college and beyond. While the donation has been used in many ways, I wanted to share one project in-particular.

All of our 9th grade students take a course called Digital Media Arts in which they learn to use some of the different programs that will be incorporated into their projects throughout their high school career. These programs include Keynote and/or Powerpoint, iMovie, and Photoshop, just to mention a few. The 9th graders at City Arts and Technology High School were involved in another project. Using Google sketch-up, they got to apply what they were learning about design theory to 3D designs of a home. As part of this project they needed to identify an actual plot of land, calculate the dimensions, and then complete their design using the sketch-up program.
