The Poetry Slam Begins – ACE Poetry Contest Mascot, Riley, Welcomes Hei Hei, SFIHS’ Poetry Contest Mascot
By Riley, ACE Poetry Contest Mascot, Alpha Public Schools
Hey Hei Hei!
Hope you’re enjoying your day!
Here’s a little rhyme
To help you pass the time
My name is Riley
I’m usually calm and smiley
My best friend is named Lucy
Whose just the cutest beauty
I love walks in the park
And I don’t usually bark
I hope to meet you one day
Welcome to the team Hei Hei!
SF International Welcomes the Sunshine and Another Poetry Contest for National Poetry Month
By Hei Hei, ACE Poetry Contest Mascot, San Francisco International High School
Hey hey this is Hei Hei!
That’s right, my name sounds like a greeting! It’s kind of perfect, because that’s exactly what I love doing most. Everyday I greet students as they come into the Wellness Center and get lots of cuddles in return. I’m new this year, but the students and staff of San Francisco International High School (SFIHS) have welcomed me into their Husky family – even though I’m a LOT smaller than a Husky!
It’s April, the sun is finally shining and it’s time to write some poetry! This year I’m taking over for Chupe and Cronos to host the annual ACE Poetry Contest competition at SFIHS. I’m not quite sure what I have to do, but Riley seems like he has been around the block (at least 7 times!) and is helping me learn some new tricks when it comes to the contest.
Although I’m new to the poetry competition, I’m not new to poetry! My favorite kind is Haiku – or as I like to say, Heiku. Here is a Heiku to start us off.
Hei Hei means ‘black black’
But my goal is to bring light.
Wag wag cuddle lick!
Happy writing everyone!
Cats have 9 Lives in the ACE Poetry Contest, Plus Alien Tendencies
By Samosa, ACE Poetry Contest Mascot for Oakland International High School
Is it really April already? This year has flown past so quickly–though my furry, canine friends have all aged seven years since the last annual ACE Poetry Contest, me and my feline associates have remained youthful and enigmatic, probably because we know we have those nine lives to spare. Or maybe it’s because we’re intergalactic, fearsome aliens. Either way, we’ll never tell.
Ah, but poetry–I’m looking forward to what’s coming out of the minds and hearts of the young people of Oakland International High School this April! With the whole wide universe to choose from as a topic, I know they’ll have a lot to say, and I can’t wait to curl up and listen. With some catnip.
Here’s my offering to you, good readers–Happy National Poetry Month!
All us Cats and Flerkens like to purr
when you pet and stroke our fur.
There’s no better feeling on earth
than being petted for all that you’re worth.
