School year: 2020/2021

Adult / Family Member Classes:
Refugee & Immigrant Transitions will offer two levels of remote English & technology Classes (via Zoom), four days/week, for one hour/day, starting instruction the week after Labor Day (September 8th.) While the classes themselves will be shorter (one hour versus one and a half hours in previous years, due to the challenges of maintaining a high level of engagement via zoom for long periods of time), RIT will be supplementing the lost hours of instruction with one-on-one check-ins and additional asynchronous learning. OIHS will be working with adult learners and Refugee & Immigrant Transitions to create a computer loaner system, ensure that families have access to reliable internet at home, and that they understand the basics of computer use and how to access/utilize zoom before taking the computers home.

Instructor: Cara Lazarus
Class 1: M -Th 9:30-10:30
Class 2: M – Th 11:30-12:30

Bridge to Community College Classes:
We continue to partner with Peralta Colleges to host dual-enrollment classes for OIHS students in the distance-learning context, as well as specialized support classes in college-level math to ensure students can equitably access their college level content. This Fall, OIHS will contract East Bay Consortium for college mentoring to support students in applying for colleges, completing FAFSA applications and applying to scholarships, and contract with Peralta Colleges to provide transitional counseling to students attending community college in the Spring and Summer of 2021.

We continue to partner with Genesys, YouthBeats & KDOL, and Code Nation and, this fall, we will all work together to adapt our internship plans to respond to uncertainty around when it might be safe to return to in person programming.
